POSTERS
The majority of the posters highlighted in this section are from work I’ve designed for the famous twelve department store/style display windows that cover the block-long facade of the Central Pratt Library in Baltimore at street level. The biggest challenge is that the primary target audience is in a perpetual state of motion: walking, riding, cycling, or being propelled in some manner. It is imperative that the design quickly generates enough interest and information (similar to a billboard) to successfully convey the message. In many instances, the viewer would stop. On one occasion I received a letter from a member of the public who wrote that the message she saw displayed in one of the windows was exactly what she needed to read, and compelled her to do something she had put off for a long time. The poster, which is shown on this webpage, contains the famous quote by Eleanor Roosevelt: “Do one thing every day that scares you.” The posters generally measured 4 x 8 feet (120 x 240 centimeters).
Poster I designed in partnership with the City of Baltimore Department of Health to help raise awareness and promote prostrate health. The design won an ADDY (American Advertising Award) for design. Pratt Library, Baltimore
The addition of an inexpensive baseball prop on the exterior of this display window helped drive the message home. Pratt Library, Baltimore

Even though I designed this window poster in 2011, three years after Elizabeth Warren had been appointed by President Obama to oversee the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), for the background, I chose a color palette similar to the one used on Air Force One. Pratt Library, Baltimore

Flu shots can hurt a little sometimes. For this poster, I tried to address this fear head on with humor utilizing colors from the the Pratt Library palette combined with easy-to-read typography. A flu shot may hurt a little. but in this instance it was free, and could save someone’s life. Pratt Library, Baltimore

Pro bono poster design I submitted to the American Red Cross in 2000 while I was a student. The American Red Cross rejected it because it bastardized the logo, but I like it.

Joseph Kennedy played such an over-sized role in the lives of his children. To convey his patriarchy, I enlarged an image of him in the background that towers over his sons, and colored his eyes similar to the color blue in the U.S. flag. Pratt Library, Baltimore
